Stretch The Writing Muscles

A Break In The Weekly Meme...

This ROW80 writer has been stretching her writing muscles, and I've posted below another selection from my venture into all-things-poetry.  It's rather addictive, if I say so, myself.

In writing news...

I busily write away on guest posts for my upcoming tour with IOBT!  A Practical Arrangement will be featured around some fantastic blogs in the upcoming weeks.  So...while I'm piling up the words, I have not begun another novel.  Yet!  But I've a few projects in the works.  Excitedly, I sort through where, exactly, I'll set off for next.  Historical writing has emerged as my favorite at this stage in the game, and I'm not at all surprised.  But ... (there's always a but, right?  LOL.) I've also been working on an entirely different project.  Time will tell...

To all my writer friends, please excuse my lack of visiting around.  I'll be back at it as the dust settles.  A season of change has come upon me, and I'm burning the candle at both ends...and maybe the middle has caught fire, too.  Oy Vey!  But ...being the adventurer I am...well...I grab it up with all the gusto I can conjure.

‘Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?’

Somber bitterness
stakes its claim,
nestles seeds of
wrath within fertile
wounds.
I am...
          laid bare.

Vining tendrils grasp,
seeking purchase upon
facets of hidden self,
suffocating all within
reach.
I am...
          afraid.

My soul cries out from
the darkness - 'My God,
My God,Why
Have You Forsaken
Me?'
I am...
          separate.

Resounding yet gentle, His
voice whispers
in recesses untainted,
'Be still and know that I
Am.'
I am...
          at peace.

  4. I haven't written poetry in years. I think I just wrote so much during my younger years that I got burned out. Although, I'm thinking of writing one for my youngest son. I might tell you about that later....

Your poem was beautiful. I knew immediately what those words, Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?, meant, and I knew it was going to be a very powerful poem. There have been times in my life I've asked that very question.

  6. I enjoyed your poem as well. I used to dabble with poetry in high school and college, but a particularly bad Advanced Poetry Writing professor in college turned me off to it.

Maybe someday I'll get back into it... but not yet. Good luck on the coming virtual book tour!

  8. Me thinkith she doth pen verse strikingly well for one who claims no knoledge therein...

Very good poem Schultz. It took me a bit of discomfort before I felt comfortable with the idea that poetry was every bit as valuable and valid as pros...I am glad you are sharing.

I have put one idea on your plate so far...here is another one for you. A novel set in a western town in the 1800s when law was made by the man with the fastest gun, or thr man who hired him...will the new gun hand bring desperately needed love to the young widow's life, or a fresh grave for her tears to dampen...

    I'm evil aren't I ;-)

Great tag line. Maybe I will hire you to write my next one. LOL.

As for the verse, and penning poetry. Meh...It was just there. But I find myself enjoying this writing quite a bit. Thanks for the kind comments!
