Lighten Your Heart...Have A Laugh

Sunday is upon us again, fellow ROW80 writers.  Measure up your progress and check in.  Are you claiming, 'Nailed it!', or 'Aww, Nuts!'?  Either way, take a few minutes to laugh and learn.  Lighten your heart - it'll make the upcoming week look even brighter!

To kick-up that sparkle of mirth in your eye, stop by Jenny Hansen's Cowbell and giggle your way through her A-Z Challenge entry, 'Q Is For A Quick Giggle ~ A Visit With Sister Myotis (of Christian Panties Fame).  What a hoot.

Since we're on the subject of nuns, I had to share 'Late Night Catechism' with Sister Maripat Donovon.  Hysterical. (And there's a bit about thongs in it, too!)  Sister Myotis and Maripat are kindred spirits.

Here's Sister Maripat now...Enjoy!

The lovely Em ~ Loves To Read, Wants To Write tagged me with Seven Facts Award.  Below I attempt to reveal seven things about myself that won't bore you to tears.

1)  I'm a Virgo.  I'm not sure what that means...but I am one.  Ha!

2)  Cooking brings me joy.  I'm seriously addicted to Food Network.  My favorite chefs are Melissa D'Arabian, Giada, Rachael Ray, and Ann Burrell.  I watch constantly and try at least two recipes a week.  Because of my well known love for cooking, my dad had a new butcher block cutting board custom made for me - it's 18" x 20" approx in size!  This thing is huge...and I ♥ it.

3)  For all that love of cooking, I'm the worst pastry chef alive.  Pie crust and I don't get along.

4)  An unreasonable fear of doctors holds me in its terrible grip.  I absolutely will not go to one unless something very, very serious is wrong with me...and even then, I attempt to 'cure-myself' first.  My husband is a nurse, so this irritates him to no end!  I even cauterized my own mole rather than to let a doctor loose on my person.  My hubby nearly had apoplexy.  He threatened me with infection and all sorts of dire predictions of treating myself in such a fashion.  But...all was well, re-enforcing my awful behavior and attitude.  If you ever hear a strange account on the morning news show about a woman treating herself that ends in a bad way...it's sure to be me.  My son, laughing, says it reminds him of this clip... Jeepers!

5)  I hardly ever answer my phone to the chagrin of my friends and family.  I don't carry it around with me and rarely hear it when it rings.  This is another of my habits that drives my hubby crazy.

6)  My favorite workout is the 'Death By _______' (add your exercise - say squats, sit-ups, push-ups, tuck jumps, overhead presses...whatever) workout.  Why?  Because it pushes me to my boundaries in 20 minutes or less.  Usually less...lol.  Here's how for any interested.  Have a clock nearby that you can easily see.  Each minute is a round.  Minute one - do one of your chosen exercise.  Rest for the remainder of the minute.
Minute two - do two of your chosen exercise.  Rest for the remainder of the minute.
Continue anew each minute, adding one more to your goal each round.
Earlier this week, I completed 13 rounds (minutes) for a total of 91 push-ups.  Awesome.  :)

7)  I don't like to wear shoes; and if I could get away with it, I'd go barefoot all the time.  During summer months, I have sandals that I wear when I must leave the house...and no full shoes cover my toes until it gets too cold for me to stand it.  Shoes are not allowed in my house....at all!  I become VERY upset when my boys tramp inside with their sneakers.  'I forgot....', they attempt to appease me.  No dice.

As for writing.....

I will begin writing today or tomorrow. (I'm having company for dinner today and don't know how exhausted I'll be later...ha!)  Character profiles are complete.  Chapters are outlined.  Notebook is numbered.  I'm ready.  :}

Have a great week, everyone!

  1. You are a Virgo. That's cool. I'm an Aquarius. Like you, I'm not sure what that means though I've had a few folks tell me a tidbit here and there.

And I wish I could have that love of cooking. I adored watching Food Network while I was single, trying new things. Family life sort of changed that for me. Not sure why.

Anywho, love your seven facts. And hope your company has a blast...which I'm sure will be the case with you as the hostess :-)

    1. I do love to cook. Even when I still worked full time, I would cook away on the weekends. But it is tough when you've worked all day, have homework to check with little ones, sports/dance/club to whisk them to, grocery shopping, errands, cleaning, laundry....it can steal your joy for the kitchen. I suppose because the thought of making one more mess for yourself is just so darned defeating sometimes.

  2. I like Giada. She's very down to earth and the dishes she cooks are simple but very authentic. I used to be very into Rachael Ray but some where along the line she got too commercial for me. Alton Brown is still my absolute favorite. I miss Good Eats :(.

It sounds like you're ready to rock and roll on your next writing project. Best of luck :)

    1. I like Good Eats, too. I watch it around 10am every day. I like that he focuses on one food for each episode and really explores it. Are these all re-runs? I don't know...

  3. Love your facts! I love to cook too...unfortunately, when you're married to a chef, you get the equivalent of a 'backseat driver'. Except when I bake. He hate's baking, so he leaves all that up to me :)

I don't like to wear shoes either (growing up in South Texas will do that to a girl), so I'm always wearing flops (even in the winter!) or I'm barefoot.

    Have a great ROW80 week!

    1. Cooking relaxes me. Growing up, we ate late dinners and lingered around the table for an hour or more. So I associate eating and food with talking and companionship.

We were looking through some old photo books from growing up - and had to laugh! I'd guess that a solid 70% of our photos were taken around the dinner table - of us eating, of the food, more eating....lol. My parents loved to see us eating...ha!

  4. I am SO with you on the no shoes thing. Good thing I live in the desert and can get away with it almost year around. Flip-flops are my friend :) I love those bead thingies...must find.

Good luck with the writing! Hope you have a fabulous week Nadja.

    1. Shoes cram your feet. They make me hot, too. Although in winter, I love the feel of socks. Not because I necessarily like socks, but because my feet turn into popcicles. Oy!

I always hit the Old Navy Sale to buy about 10 pair of flip flops (you know...when they are $1.99??) Ha!. Then I always have a nice pair (or two) of nice sandles. I never realized how many women felt the same as I do about shoes!

  5. LOL, I do like to wear shoes. Mostly because I can't stand the bottom of my feet to get dirty. If my floors were pristine or there was no dirt outside.... LOL But I would rather wear flip flops than anything. :)

I love to cook, too. But I HATE the clean up part.

I'm glad you're finally getting ready to write. I had something that I compared all the pre-writing preparation to, but it sounded too risque for me, so I deleted it. LOL

    1. Ha! Risque?? Too funny. And you're right about bare feet getting dirty. I have to scrub my feet all the time during summer months. I keep a bin with water (heated by the sun) for washing my feet before stepping inside.

I also require that every morning the blower be run to clean off any debris from my patio/porches/and sidewalks. And I'm forever hosing them off. Uhhm, yeah. My water bill is a whopper in summer. Ha.

  6. OMG! Why have I never heard of Sister Maripat?! I need to pass this on to a few of my friends.

  7. I'm a Sagittarius, and the only thing I know is that we're supposed to freedom spirits ... and I don't really feel like one lol
IF I could, I would wear heels every single second of the day lol

    1. High heels look so beautiful...so classy. But I cannot stand cramming my feet into them. They hurt and I would probably break my ankles. Ha! I tip my hat to any who can wear them...they look great on! Me?? I'll stick to my barefoot shoes. ha!

  8. Kindred spirit! I also love cooking and dislike wearing shoes! I have a housemate who traipses inside after work in his boots, and I just sort of stare after him, wondering why it is so hard for him to take them off in the laundry.

    1. Makes you want to commit bad acts, right? Ha! I never understood why anyone would wear shoes in the house. Shoes have been in all sorts of dirty disgusting places. Then, I learned that not everyone likes to be barefooted....(astonishing, but true, right?) And some even see bare feet as disgusting! (although I suppose one bout with athletes' foot could be enough to do that...lol)
To each his own. Anyway...thanks for stopping by everyone. Have a terrific ROW80 week!

  10. hate shoes - never found a pair thats comfy, bare or flip flops - in my youth I had flip flops for day and party wear -(wasn't so easy to get prety ones back then) - think cooking is so creative really enjoy messing about in the kitchen. Not such a clean freak tho - feet are often dirty in the summer:( water has to be paid for -on a metre - and i like leaves and petals dancing around the outside courtyard:)

all the best for coming week

    1. See!? I wish I could appreciate those petals and leaves dancing...such a great mental picture...but all I see is a mess :{

You always give me a new perspective, Alberta...I appreciate that.

  11. Love the facts, Nadja! It's so funny - I LOVE shoes, especially high heels, and adore prancing around in them all day, but once I get inside the house, it's bare feet all the way. I hate socks, and I only wear slippers because I live in an apartment with tile floors. So random. :P

Have a wonderful week, my friend!

    1. And I bet you look great in heels, too. I look like a drunken Olive Oil - all knees and elbows going in wrong directions. Ha!

  12. Oh, Nadja, this was such a fun post. Thank you for the smiles and the information.

So with you on the shoes... I live in Upstate new York and often wear those clunky wooden Dr. Scholl's sandals outside on the deck when I feed the birds and the outside cats. (And it's spring time here... almost shoes off time! YAY!!!)

But I don't like to cook. Or rather, I don't feel comfortable cooking... Hmm! You've inspired me. I think I will check out some of your favorites.

And doctor visits... Um, yeah, your husband would probably have an issue with BOTH my husband and I. UGH Doctors...*shudders*

Best luck on your ROW80 endeavors. You sound like you have all your ducks in a row. So, ready, set... GO! :-D

  13. Same here. Hate shoes and go without whenever possible.

  14. I used to know a militant barefootist. She didn't wear shoes ever. She didn't wear them to restaurants or bars or theme parks or stores, she didn't carry a pair in her purse or her car, and if you told her to put some on, she made a scene.
It was more than a little irksome to hang around with her, but she had an interesting point. There's little logical reason to require others wear shoes - bare feet aren't unsanitary, there are no health code regulations in most places requiring shoes (that's a myth), and one person's footwear isn't really anyone else's problem. It's even possible to walk long distances in snow barefoot if you know what you're doing.
I mean, her priorities were absurd, but she spoke truth. There's little reason for society to demand we wear shoes.

    1. That is militant! Ha! I'm passionate, but not that passionate...lol.

I like her style, though. She had a principle and stuck to it.

      Thanks for stopping by, Brigid!
